Why A Squirrel Always Lands On Its Feet

A few days ago, my girls were watching Mark Rober’s ‘Backyard Squirrel Maze’ on YouTube when I happened to walk into the room. So being the amazing parent I am, I sat down and started watching 🙂

And here’s the part I walked in on:

But what struck me the most about this was this simple truth:

“Where you look, you go.”

In this particular case, as the squirrel is falling off the tube, the first thing it does is to LOOK for his landing. And as soon as he does that, the rest of his body starts to follow.

I learned this when I first started to learn 360s on my snowboard back in junior high school. And it helped me tremendously once I figured that out.

But this can also work against you. Let me explain…

I’ve always known I wanted to be an entrepreneur. The idea of doing my own thing seems to have been ingrained in me from the start.

And because of that mindset, I see opportunities everywhere. I’m able to see the application of an idea and how that could translate into a formalized business very quickly and almost effortlessly.

BUT…it can be a very slippery slope.

Yes, this ability has enabled me to be part of many different business opportunities. However, it has also stunted my success at times because I was LOOKING in too many directions. As a result, I only advanced one tiny step at a time. The problem wasn’t a lack of opportunity. The problem was that I didn’t LOOK at one specific opportunity long enough.

Remember, where you look, you go. If you are truly fixed on your desired outcome, then even if obstacles arise you will still be working your way towards that goal, because that is where your focus lies.
